LG ‘s 2.98 Pounds Gram 17 Review -’Way Lighter Than It Seems'
It’s unbelievable! Seventeen! This laptop has a seventeen-inch widescreen and weighs just 2.98 pounds. It is very unusual to see laptops of 17 inch under 4 pounds. Along with this, the starting price of this laptop is $1699.
LG’s new model 2020 Gram 17 is an update of the 2019 model. The new model has improved chassis, a bigger battery which means greater battery life, keyboard layout with minor tweaks, and a new 10th Generation Core i7 with a massive screen.
Specifications:
l 17 inch IPS Display, 2560 x1600,16:10
l 16GB DDR 4, dual channel at 3200MHz

The 17-inch screen panel has a 2560 x 1600 resolution and an aspect ratio of 16:10. It is not only wide but you can even get a bit more of the vertical space. It has a perfectly designed panel which gives you no trouble working in the bright glare. This model covers 74% of AdobeRGB and 99% of the sRGB gamut.
But, it does not have a perfect display and reaches 369 nits at maximum brightness which means it is not the brightest screen out there. Dell XPS 17 and MacBook Pro 16 both reach 500 bits. The touchscreen facility is omitted as it comes with a serious weight penalty, but that is disappointing at $1699.
With such a screen space, you will not be sacrificing portability. At 2.98 pounds this model is feather as compared to Dell XPS 17(4.65 pounds), HP Envy 17(6.02 pounds), and MacBook Pro(4.3 pounds) and many small computers such as HP Spectre(4.64 pounds), 15- inch surface laptop 3(3.4 pounds), Dell XPS 15(4 pounds). The massive chassis( 14.98 x 10.34 x 0.69) inches makes it feel lighter.
2020 Gram 17 has exceptional battery life. It comes with an 80 Wh battery ( which can run up to 10 hours a day on full workload ) and a 48W charger. The keyboard is back-lit and with options to flick between high and low brightness levels. It has smooth touch-pad and comfortable clicks.
The two areas where Gram does not match its price point are:
l Design- LG updated this model by removing a large hinge from the previous model, which made it a bit chunky. The laptop is a bit thick. The chassis is made up of dark silver-magnesium alloy. These traits do not make it look more appealing.
l Performance-Browsing and surfing work well but it slows down under heavy load and actions. It will give you a slow experience while playing games.
However, the intent of Gram 17 is to create the lightest laptop and it has succeeded in this line. It is a user-specific deal. If you want to go for wide-screen, lightness, and do not planning on doing something with the integrated graphics. Then, this laptop will be a great purchase for you.
