LG Display Transforms From Flat to Curved For Gaming Experience
LG Display has launched the latest prototype which is a 48-inch flexible OLED panel. It can be flattened for watching TV and can be bent for gaming. The 48 inch TV offers the immersive benefits of a curved screen for gaming without forcing a curved screen. It will be demonstrated at this year’s Virtual CES and uses LG Display’s Cinematic Sound OLED (CSO) technology which produces sound by vibrating the screen.
This prototype is the newest experiment of LG Display with OLEDs which have included a rollable TV that would pack into a compact box when not in use previously. LG Display has shown similar bendable TV prototypes previously such as the 65 inch TV for inside planes that could bend into a curve for the passengers.
In terms of specifications, it can be bent up to a radius of 1000mm and has got a high refresh rate of 120Hz. Its variable refresh rate range goes from 40Hz to 120Hz and has a response time of 0.1 milliseconds. It can vibrate its screen to produce sound, a technique that LG previously used in its flat panels. However, most gamers would generally prefer to use speakers or headphones for the sound.
LG Display also has a range of transparent OLED display use cases for this year’s Virtual CES Show. It includes a ‘Smart Bed’ with a transparent OLED TV which rises out of its frame. It even has a restaurant display to allow diners to see behind it and a train carriage window to display customer information.
LG Display has also debuted a range of TVs that feature Mini LED display technology.
